Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a Scottish physician and writer, most noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction, and for the adventures of Professor Challenger. He was a prolific writer whose other works include fantasy and science fiction stories, plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction and historical novels. Arthur Conan Doyle was born on 22 May 1859 at Picardy Place, Edinburgh. He died of a heart attack at the age of 71. His last words were directed toward his wife: “You are wonderful.” 阿瑟·柯南·道爾爵士（1859-1930），英國杰出的偵探小說家、劇作家、歷史學(xué)家，被譽為“世界偵探小說之父”。1887年，柯南道爾的第一部偵探小說《血字的研究》問世，這部小說在當時社會引起了強烈的反響，深受廣大讀者喜愛。于是1889年又發(fā)表了他的第二部偵探小說《四簽名》，這兩部小說中塑造了“福爾摩斯”這一神探形象。此后，柯南·道爾又陸續(xù)發(fā)表了一系列以“福爾摩斯”為主要人物的中篇小說，皆收入到《夏洛克·福爾摩斯全集》中。1900年，柯南·道爾以軍醫(yī)身份到南非參與布爾戰(zhàn)爭（The Bore War）。因在野戰(zhàn)醫(yī)院表現(xiàn)出色，獲封爵士。1930年7月7日過世，享年71歲。
