Contemporary Chinese culture 節(jié)選

After the founding of the PRC, the Chinese people have been seeking comprehensive development through economic and spiritual culture. In September 1949, during the first plenary session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mao Zedong, the newly elected chairman of China, pointed out: “With the coming of the economic development boom, an upsurge of cultural development is inevitable. The era when Chinese people were regarded as backward is gone and we will enter the global stage as a highly cultured nation.” Zhou Enlai, premier of the Government Administration Council, made a vivid metaphor — “Economic development and cultural development are two wheels of a cart that complement each other.”

歐陽雪梅，中國社會科學(xué)院當(dāng)代中國研究所文化史研究室主任、二級研究員、所學(xué)術(shù)委員會委員，中國社會科學(xué)院研究生院教授，長期擔(dān)任中國社會科學(xué)院創(chuàng)新工程研究項目首席研究員，文化和旅游部國家主題性創(chuàng)作項目專家指導(dǎo)委員會委員。主要研究方向為新中國文化史、中國近現(xiàn)代人物研究。代表作有《新中國文化建設(shè)論略》《新中國70年社會主義文化建設(shè)及其經(jīng)驗》《中華人民共和國文化史（1949—2019）》。 Ouyang Xuemei, director of the Cultural History Research Office of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), member of the academic committee of the Institute and professor at the CASS Graduate School, has long served as the chief researcher of innovative research projects of CASS, and a member of the Expert Steering Committee of Thematic Creation Projects of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Her representative works include A Brief Introduction to the Cultural Construction of the People’s Republic of China, 70-Year Socialist Culture Construction of the People’s Republic of China and Its Experience and The Cultural History of the People’s Republic of China (1949–2019).
